The Namesake

Maud, my great-great-grandmother, was known for her stylish home in a small town in Arkansas. Determined to make her family's home feel comfortable despite the hardships of the Great Depression, she was resourceful and sewed flour sacks into slipcovers.
Her daughter, my great-grandmother Maudie (pictured left), inherited that instinct for resourcefulness and homemaking. Many of her weekends were spent scouring thrift stores, yard sales, and antique malls. This eventually led her to open her own shop, Junk to Jewels, in a small Texas town.
My grandmother and mother carried that spirit forward, building careers as interior designers, entrepreneurs, and editors at Milieu Magazine. From them, I learned that antiques aren’t just decorative. They add soul, depth, and authenticity to a space.
Following four generations of furniture fanatics, I didn’t stand a chance. I was destined to be obsessed with antiques and interior design. My shop is a tribute to the women before me who appreciated pieces that tell stories, hold history, and bring meaning to the spaces we live in.

About Avery

Dallas-born and New York-based, I’ve been immersed in design for most of my life and am always seeking new opportunities to grow. I’m currently pursuing my MFA at the New York School of Interior Design, while interning with the incredible team at McAlpine House. I also work as an associate editor at Milieu Magazine and spend much of my free time sourcing for my shop. In each of these roles, I’m driven by a deep appreciation for spaces and objects that feel personal, interesting, and enduring.
